2 MORE POINTS DROPPED
BUT OVERALL NOT SUCH A BAD DAY
Rarely have Borough fought so hard against every setback thrown at them and been rewarded although that should have been greater than it was. And rarely do I comment on referees so all I will say is that we picked up 6 yellows and 1 red , then swallow hard and rue the multi hundred pounds it will cost. As has so often happened this season we conceded the first goal of the match to make our job that much harder albeit taking longer than usual – a full 26 minutes – to do so. The remainder of a half puctuated by several field visits by both Physios was an even affair with little incident of note other than the forced withdrawal of Rakim Richards (fortunately Tommy Boxer was on the bench so there was no weakening of the defence) until it burst into life in stoppage time when Sydney Ibie outran the visitors defence and produced a composed finish. Unfortunately it was his last desirable contribution for 13 minutes later he was red carded after the original minimum of 8 minutes had been extended by the lengthy treatment time for the opponent he had fouled. Borough shrugged off the handicap after the interval making but not converting several half chances but it was probably inevitable that Witham would sooner or later make good use of their numerical advantage and in the 79th minute they did so. But Borough would simply not give in easily and just before the end of the 90 minutes Jorge Djassi Sambu was introduced as an extra striker and in the 98th minute joy unbounded erupted as he was on hand to pounce on a loose ball about 8 yards out, after Derek Asamoah had been brought down in the box, with a penalty being hoped for, and made no mistake with a well placed finish. Joy would have been ecstasy had we secured the other 2 points we deserved which would have lifted us out of the drop zone but that opportunity has been put back until next Saturday when we visit Newmarket Town, the team we should have overtaken today. A win there will lift us out of it whatever the results of our other relegation fighters games. Today only Sporting Bengal United picked up a point (0-0 at home to Walthamstow) . Newmarket town lost 5-0 at Brentwood Town, Baildon United lost 5-1 at Redbridge and Wroxham lost 2-1 at home to Brightlingsea Regent. Its beginning to look more likely than not that it “won’t be over ‘til the fat lady sings” on 26th April on which day we will be at Brightlingea Regent and can only hope that by then we will know that we are not one of the unfortunate 4 she is serenading with her rendition of “Good Night Vienna”. We have no doubt that a significant contingent of our fantastic supporters will be at Newmarket to lend their voices to our efforts………….the UNDER 23’s had a good day too recording their 3rd consecutive win (by 3-1) at Frenford Development……no game for the WOMEN this Sunday but the highlight of their season to date will be on the 23rd March when Arsenal Academy visit Coles Park (2pm) in the semi-final of the Capital Womens Senior Cup; they too would benefit from some noisy support of course.
