Borough were three goals ahead at the interval and although the second half was a more even affair Borough had added two more before Bowers netted their consolation ten minutes from time. Feb 23, 2014, 6:21 pm NO POINTS - BUT PLENTY TO CELEBRATE Again it was the Womens team that fulfilled the Club's second fixture of 2014 with the men yet to kick a ball for real. With only 11 players and no recognised 'keeper among them the 6-3 defeat at Stevenage Borough was not altogether surprising and to make matters worse Marianne Sheena sustained an ankle injury in the closing seconds of the first half and could not continue. Borough were three goals down by then and it quickly became four after the restart and five shortly afterwards. But Borough heads never dropped and after Erika Vareckova had gone agonisingly close debut making Ana Duran Anca drove home a low shot from just inside the area. Although Stevenage quickly added their sixth Borough's ten players achieved a draw in the second half , as they had done in their previous fixture, with a long range lob and a well placed shot both from the speedy, persistent Joselina Ferreira. Midfielder Paulina Saviciute also made a promising midfield debut and both the new players left no doubt that they will not easily be dislodged from future starting line ups. Feb 3, 2014, 12:01 am AT LAST - SOME ACTION It fell to the Women to complete the Club's first fixture of 2014. But it needed a round trip of 250 miles to play Lowestoft Town on a school pitch in Gorleston - on - Sea to get it on. (its not just Coles Park thats under the weathers cosh - even the Ryman Premier League pitch at Crown Meadow where it should have been played was unfit !). But no complaints it was a fine surface. Visiting the League leaders after 2 months inactivity was not the ideal way to resume the programme so the 5-2 defeat was hardly a surprise but after falling two behind, Marianne Sheena rekindled hope with a fine shot before poor marking enabled the home side to knock in three more without being made to work too hard for them before Natalie Silva-Knight reduced the arrears with the last kick of the first half. That was the end of the scoring and Borough gave a good account of themselves in the second half in which the home side might have been caused some concern had what looked like a strightforward penalty decision been givem when Erika Vareckova was upended as she close in. But in the closing stages it was Borough 'keeper Angelika Kopec who caught the eye with a string of excellent saves to keep the score down
Jan 29, 2014, 2:06 pm VERY UNHAPPY NEWS Sadly, one of our most devoted and long term supporters JOHN PATMAN passed away earlier this month. John suffered from deteriorating health and restricted mobility for many years but his determination to see as many games as possible at Coles Park contributed greatly to the local Minicab firms profits; and when he couldn’t make it he was invariably on the phone – often coinciding his calls with the referees full time whistle – to learn how we had fared. The Stand will seem an emptier place without his familiar presence in the centre of the front row. Our sympathy is extended to all his family and friends and his next of kin has advised us he would like to present the Club with a trophy named after John to be awarded annually to our player of the season. The Club Chairman and Secretary attended John's cremation on Monday 10th February (3.40pm) at the South Essex Crematorium, Ockenden Road, Upminster, RM14 2UY Jan 18, 2014, 1:31 pm ESSEX SENIOR LEAGUE FIXTURES TO END OF SEASON ANNOUNCED All fixtures are now scheduled right through to the end of the season and can be seen via the "Fixtures & Results" option. Fixtures for all teams in the League can be accessed via the "Football Mitoo" link Dec 14, 2013, 8:02 pm GOAL-LESS STALEMATE DESPITE SECOND HALF IMPROVEMENT After a cagey and largely uneventful first half Borough dominated throughout after the interval. Often desperate last dirch interventions and one outstanding save denied them a goal and for all their late pressure and increasing urgency they could not find a way through the FC Romania defence even after the hosts had been reduced to ten men by a double yellow card. With the opportunities created it has to be seen as two points dropped rather than one won Dec 8, 2013, 10:47 pm WOMEN END LOSING STREAK The Women's team picked up a precious and well deserved point in a 2-2 draw with Barking at Coles Park, twice coming from behind. Stephanie Cooper netted the equalisers in each half but it was a solid and energetic performance from the whole squad which brought their six match losing and five goal-less runs to an end. Dec 8, 2013, 11:05 am VASE HOPES SMASHED Borough’s Wembley appearance dream was well on track after 65 minutes of their Third Round Vase tie at home to Brantham Athletic as, somewhat against the overall run of play, they were two up through headers by Anthony McDonald and Michael Deane. When awarded a penalty five minutes later it looked like Brantham would soon be on their way back to Suffolk but it was wasted and Borough paid dearly for that as the revitalized visitors forced their way back with two close range finishes and an extra time winner. Clearly Borough virtually threw the match away but ultimately the better team progressed |
