But Borough regained their composure and after an outstanding 20 yard blast arrowed into the top corner by Dean Fenton to make it 5-2 the outcome was never really in doubt and having opened the scoring in the 4th minute he completed his hat-trick with a scrambled effort in the last minute making 6-2 the final score. The second goal had beens cored by Darrell Cox after 7 minutes and he put Borough 4 up three minutes into the second half. To prove you can't keep a good full back tied to his defensive role Charlie Douse added a further goal to his brace of last week - again thanks to a corner but not with his head this time as he pounced on a loose ball after a prolonged goalmouth scramble. First Round proper draw on Monday - so watch this space. SOMEWHAT DISAPPOINTING DRAW AS WE WILL MEET A FELLOW ESSEX SENIOR LEAGUE TEAM. WE WILL BE AWAY TO TOWER HAMLETS ON SATURDAY 19th OCTOBER
Sep 18, 2013, 10:50 am COMING TO THE BIG MATCH ? Sep 16, 2013, 12:05 pm TOUGH DRAW IN 2nd QUALIFYING ROUND Borough will visit a Ryman Isthmian League Premier Division Club in the 2nd Qualifying round of the FA Cup with Budweiser - namely WEALDSTONE. The venue will be familiar to Borough for their hosts now play in what was for so long the home of Spartan South Midlands Club Ruislip Manor in Grosvenor Vale. Wealdstone are currently second in the Premier Division table, unbeaten after 9 games with 5 wins and 4 draws and a goal difference of 23-8 Sep 14, 2013, 7:28 pm DEFENDER DOUSE SHOWS THE WAY Borough moved into the 2nd (of 4) Qualifying round of the FA Cup at Wembley FC with the famous stadium clearly in view. But the blushes of Borough's misfiring strike force were spared only thanks to right back Charles Douse who twice raced forward to power home headers from left wing corners by Anthony McDonald. The first came in the 2nd minute and the other in the 73rd but in between Borough squandered numerous fine chances - so much so that his second should have been an irrelevance by then instead of the much needed "insurance" it actually was. Draw for next round on Monday. Sep 7, 2013, 9:05 pm SAFELY PAST FIRST VASE HURDLE Borough wasted many opportunities on their Vase vist to Southall (at the familiar venue of Hanwell Town's Reynolds Fields Stadium) but went through thanks to a 22nd minute opener from Anthony McDonald and an 88th minute clincher from Dean Fenton. A strong, fast and powerful Southall side pushed them all the way but had left their shooting boots behind and nothing spectacular was demanded of Borough 'keeper Erbil Bozkurt. In the next round (2nd Qualifying on 21st September) Borough will entertain Wellingborough Town of the United Counties League who won their tie today by the only goal at Harefield United. Sep 5, 2013, 5:13 pm MIDWEEK POINT FROM A GAME OF TWO PENALTIES Borough returned from Clapton’s “Old Spotted Dog” ground with a point after a difficult game on a pitch every bit as unsatisfactory as they had been led to expect. Both teams creditably started by trying to play an attractive passing game but by the end bash it long and high was the order of the day. Borough were on top in the first half but fell behind early in the second to a penalty awarded for handball when it seemed difficult for the defender to get out of the way of a fierce blast. A few minutes later Borough were awarded a somewhat soft penalty too – for shirt pulling as a free kick was lofted in, apparently. Cedric Lakole hit it just hard enough to prevent the keeper, who got a hand to it , from pushing it round the post. Aug 31, 2013, 7:37 pm BOROUGH WEMBLEY BOUND AFTER THEIR PRELIMINARY ROUND "FA CUP with BUDWEISER" SUCCESS Borough moved smoothly into a 2 goal lead - both scored by Anthony McDonald - in the first 25 minutes against their Step 4 visitors AFC Hayes before their rythm was badly disturbed by an eye injury to Dewayne Clarke who required hospital treatment. The visitors pulled one back moments before the inmterval and Borough had to re-shuffle still further on the resumption when Joseph O'Cearuill was forced off with a hamstring injury. Lewis Laws dropped back to replace him in the centre of the Borough defence which was under sustained pressure for the whole half as AFC Hayes asserted themselves. Borough survived a barrage of stoppage time corners and free kicks to keep the second half scoreless and set themselves up for a FGirst Qualifying round visit on 14th September to Wembley of the Combined Counties League who today visited and dismissed Ware of the Ryman League by an impressive 5-1 scoreline. ****************************************************************** And to complete a fine weekend for the Club the Women got their first victory of the season at Sawbridgeworth Town's Crofters End ground (where the men will also be hoping for success later this season). Joselina Ferreira opened the scoring and Marianne Sheena doubled the lead before half time and netted the clincher before Sawbo pulled one back late on.
Aug 28, 2013, 11:25 pm NORMAL SERVICE QUICKLY RESUMED After last Saturday's horror show Borough immediately made amends with a performance full of the desire and determination so sadly then absent. Borough's ground sharers, Greenhouse London, battled all the way but the greater experience in the Borough squad proved to be the decisive factor as Borough chalked up a 3-0 win which lifted them to 3rd in the table |
