Three goals up at the interval, Borough endured some nervy moments in an even second half after City pulled one back early on. Two wins and a draw from the remaining 3 games will see Borough finish second.
Mar 24, 2012, 8:10 pm THIRD v FOURTH ENDS ALL SQUARE Borough made the necessary improvement in the sub standard midweek performance which had led to defeat at home to Hertford Town and a fine game ensued in which anything other than a point a piece would have been an injustice. AFC Dunstable took the lead just before the interval with a fine finish to the best move of the half; Borough stepped up a gear and had the better of the second half and Diantomba Junior glanced home an equalising header some 15 minutes from the end.
Mar 17, 2012, 9:58 pm FIFTH SIX GOAL HAUL OF THE SEASON Borough eased to a 5 goal lead at Coles Park against Hillingdon Borough before their opponents replied with two. The Clubs will meet for the third time this season in the Final of the League Challenge Trophy. But Borough must guard against complacency as it was only a few weeks ago that Hillingdon lost by a four goal margin to the team they then went on to defeat 1-0 in last week’s semi-final, Tring Athletic. Dean Fenton led the scoring spree with 4, Darrell Cox and Christopher Morgan, who added the sixth in the last minute of normal time, contributed one each. This was the fifth time Borough have scored six in a game this season but they still remain in 4th place, 14 points behind the leaders and with only 9 games to play hope of the Championship is obviously unrealistic. But a target to give interest to the run-in could be 100 League goals for which 10 are now needed from the remaining 9 games. It would be no mean feat for those matches include games against AFC Dunstable, Aylesbury United, Tring Athletic and finish at Royston Town on 28th April. Such has been Borough’s free-scoring approach to Cup games that well over 100 goals are already in the bag when knock out competition results are included – increasing the tally by 36 to 126 in all. Mar 14, 2012, 12:39 am BACK TO WINNING WAYS AT "THE BURY" Matches between the Borough and St. Margaretsbury are never occasions which faint-hearts would find to their liking and Tuesday evenings clash at The Recreation Ground lived up to expectations in that respect. Borough edged home 2-1 in a game of 9 bookings (Borough "won" that contest 5-4) in a thriller where no quarter was asked or given and no prisoners taken. Darrell Cox netted twice in the first 15 minutes and St. Margaretsbury replied in the 34th. The second half traffic was mostly in the direction of the Borough goal which somehow survived an almost non-stop barrage of long balls into the heart of the defence in the five minutes stoppage time added. The teams have met 6 times in League and Cup competitions over the last two seasons with Borough having a 100% record.
Mar 14, 2012, 12:28 am LEAGUE TROPHY FINAL OPPONENTS NOW KNOWN .....and it is to be HILLINGDON BOROUGH following their 1-0 semi-final win over Tring Athletic on March 13th. Venue as yet unannounced Mar 14, 2012, 12:26 am BOROUGH WIN TEAM OF THE MONTH AWARD FOR SECOND TIME Borough's 100% record from their 3 February games - a month in which the number of matches for all teams was limited by the bad weather - secured them the the PREMIER DIVISION TEAM OF THE MONTH award to add to their earlier November success. League President Brian Smith will probably make the award at the home game on Saturday 17th March Mar 10, 2012, 9:43 pm STOPPAGE TIME ENDING FOR BOROUGH’S NINE MATCH UNBEATEN RUN After a passable first half performance at Stotfold which saw Borough a goal up through Dean Fenton at the interval a disappointing second half resulted in a fortuitous equaliser for the home side followed by a Borough performance lacking in much commitment culminating in a 95th minute winner for the hosts resulting from some lazy defending compounded by a ‘keepers error. The second half encapsulated why Borough are in 4th place and not fighting it out for the Championship with the top three – all of whom made short work of opposition from the lower half of the table today. If minds are focused on the Cup Final already there will be many more defeats in the remaining eleven League games if greater determination and pride in performance is not shown – starting at resurgent St. Margaretsbury next Tuesday, who slaughtered Hadley – a team adjacent to Stotfold in the table - by 6-2 today. Mar 9, 2012, 8:55 pm BOROUGH WIN FEBRUARY TEAM OF THE MONTH AWARD Borough have won the PREMIER DIVISION TEAM OF THE MONTH award for FEBRUARY. Only 3 months after their similar honour in November. The award will most likely be presented by the League President, Brian Smith, and a representative of the League Sponsors, Molten Sports, at the home game on 17th March In a month where many games were lost to the weather Borough had a 100% record in the three that survived with a goal difference of 14 - 2 |
