SOLITARY GOAL FROM THE SPOT PUTS WOMEN BACK TO WINNING WAYS

Although dominating the match with visitng Hannakins from start to finish only Carrie-Anne Layton’s 80th minute penalty separated the teams at the finish with the three points keeping Borough’s promotion hopes very much on track

BACK TO WINNING WAYS AS HISTORY

REPEATS ITSELF

Three weeks ago Borough won a somewhat stormy FA Vase game 3-2 at Tring Athletic’s Grass Roots Stadium and after last week’s disappointing defeat at the hands of Royston Townin the next round of that Competition  it is difficult to see how the fixture list could have thrown up a harder test than a quick return visit in the League. Although the quality and intensity of the previous match was not replicated by either side Borough probably had to work harder to bring back the points – again by a 3-2 scoreline - than in most if not all the season’s previous games. Borough led 2-0 and 3-1 with Tring’s second reply not arriving until deep into stoppage time.

BOROUGH WIN NOVEMBER TEAM OF THE MONTH AWARD

Borough have won, almost certainly for the first time, the NOVEMBER PREMIER DIVISION TEAM OF THE MONTH award.

Well merited as after the rather unlucky 3-2 defeat at Dunstable Town on the first day of the month we went on to win all the other 6 games played

The award will  be presented by the League  President, Brian Smith, and a representative of the League Sponsors, Molten Sports, at a future Home match

WEMBLEY DREAM EXTINGUISHED

Royston Town put paid to Borough’s Vase hopes in the Third Round with an odd goal in three win. Borough did not play badly but needed to reproduce the outstanding quality which took them past Tring Athletic in the previous round but fell a long way short of that standard. “The Crows” created far fewer chances but made better use of them, even though Nick Christofi saved a penalty, than did Borough from their far greater number of opportunities.   For that shut out much credit must also go to Royston ‘keeper Will Norris who repelled everything which came his way until beaten by Richard Worrell’s late penalty by which time Borough were two down and handicapped in launching their all or nothing late onslaught having been reduced to ten men by a red card (2 yellows) shown to Demetri Stratis

LACKLUSTRE PERFORMANCE BUT 3 VALUABLE POINTS NONETHELESS

Borough returned from Biggleswade United 2-1 winners despite enjoying less possession but having made better use of their far fewer scoring opportunities.   Charles Douse smashed them into an early lead with Borough’s first real goal attempt when a corner was only half cleared and quickly turned back in by Nick Nicou.   Two superb saves by Ryohei Tamai and a number of very near misses preserved the lead until half time but Biggleswade resumed with greater urgency and deserved their equaliser although there was a suspicion of a foul on the 'keeper in the build up.   In one of Borough’s few threatening attempts of the half Darrell Cox moved smoothly onto a long diagonal ball from the left and drove the ball high into the net from just inside the area.   Failure to put away half-chances and some desperate last minute blocking and crowding out by a hard pressed Borough defence denied Biggleswade what would really have been a merited equaliser.

BOROUGH WOMEN COMPLETE THE DOUBLE OVER LEAGUE LEADERS HUTTON

Borough won more easily than the 2-0 score suggests and were in control of the game throughout. Many chances were missed but one in each half from Julia Carruthers and Eleftheria Taladianoy were sufficient to secure the points. The win puts Borough in a fine position to challenge for promotion in what will clearly be a close fought Division

THROUGH TO ROUND 3 OF THE VASE – JUST

Having built up a three goal lead by the interval after dominating the first half at Tring Athletic it was predictable that Borough would readily co-operate in turning it into a game of two halves ! Roland Namquita, Richard Worrell and Nick Nicou had done the damage. But within ten minutes of the restart it was 3-2 as a clumsily conceded penalty stoked the fires of the home sides self belief.     It was tension all the way after that with Borough just hanging on after being reduced to 10 men by a straight red and Tring also finished a man short although their dismissal came right at the end of normal time.   Borough are now in the last 64 with the 3rd Round Draw taking place on Monday 21st November
