FOUR GOAL WIN LIFTS BOROUGH TO 4th PLACE

Borough played some fine football, as is their midweek custom, and were three up by the interval.   Oxhey Jets made strenuous efforts to get themselves back into the game in the second half without being able to muster anything to put Borough keeper Ryohei Tamai to a serious test.   Although “The Jets” had by far the greater share of possession it was Borough who looked more threatening and recorded the only goal of the half. All four goals resulted from corners with Darrell Cox (2) and Dewayne Clarke netting with headers after Richard Worrell had smashed home the first goal from close range to finish off a scramble.

WOMEN WIN AWAY TO LEAGUE LEADERS

Borough Women brought back all three points from their visit to erstwhile unbeaten League leaders Hutton in a match when both teams enjoyed spells of ascendancy and some fine football was played. Borough started strongly and Eleftheria Taladianoy put them ahead but Hutton equalised with a fine cross shot with their first real effort on goal.   Hutton were in the driving seat at the start of the second half but two long distance strikes by Nicolle Houston and Carrie-Anne Layton made the scoreline 3-1.   Unfortunately bad feeling crept into the closing stages of the game and after a mass confrontation five minutes from time  a red card reduced Borough to ten but the lead never looked in much danger in the last few minutes.

POOR START BUT ALLS WELL THAT ENDS WELL

Borough’s first half performance at Holmer Green was poor and slack defending saw them fall behind after two minutes.     But for the second Saturday running a second half improvement netted three goals and the points for a 3-2 which lifts Borough to 7th in the table. Front-runners Royston Town have dropped 6 points against Borough’s 15 but Dunstable Town having dropped 11 are the only team with a better chance to threaten Royston’s supremacy

THROUGH TO THE QUARTER FINAL OF THE LEAGUE TROPHY

It was third time lucky for Borough in their tussles with Berkhamsted as a convincing 6-2 win put them into the quarter final of the League Challenge Trophy after their previous matches had resulted in a defeat and a draw.  Borough made light of the absence of leading scorer Richard Worrell as Christopher Benjamin siezed his opportunity to step up to the plate and notched a hat-trick.    Borough will visit  Biggleswade United and a win would give them a home semi-final against Chesham United Reserves or Leverstock Green or Risborough Rangers

WOMEN BAG POINTS WITH SECOND HALF GOALS

Like the mens team the day before the Women saved their best until the second half in which they too scored three goals at Coles Park to take the points against visiting Royston Town.  Eleftheria Taladianoy (2) and Michelle Thomas found the net.  The defence had given nothing away and with Sarah Cleary in commanding form at its heart kept a clean sheet to win 3-0 for the second week running.

BACK TO WINNING WAYS - BUT NOT UNTIL STOPPAGE TIME

Stotfold we deserved leaders at half time following a poor showing by Borough.  A quick equaliser after the interval restored parity and Borough probably made the greater number of second half chances to just about justify the two stoppage time goals which gave them a 3-1 win and put an end to their disappointing run of three defeats by a one goal margin.

SUPERB GAME - BUT NO REWARD

Certainly our best performance of the season in our the hardest game yet against a team well equipped to challenge for promotion.  We led for most of the match and deserved at least a point; but we were undone in the last ten minutes as we were bombarded with set pieces and gifted Dunstable Town a soft equaliser from one corner before another was headed home two minutes from time to turn the match 3-2 in Town's favour

MATCH CANCELLATION

The London Senior Cup Match of our ground-sharers HARINGEY & WALTHAM DEVELOPMENT FC due to take place at Coles Park on Tuesday 1st November has been postponed.

This is due to the tragic death of one of the Haringey & Waltham young players – 18 year old THEO MENSAH – in a car crash last week.

All at Haringey Borough FC send their sincere condolences to Theo’s family, friends and team-mates as, we are sure, do all members of the Non-League Football community.

Revised date for the match is Tuesday 8th November.
