ENGAND INTERNATIONAL SIGNING SECURES.....
Jul 24, 2010, 8:30 pm

...A WINNING START TO BOROUGH'S  PRE-SEASON CAMPAIGN

England Deaf International striker DANIEL AILEY who has re-signed for Borough having played a few seasons ago ensured pre-season started happily with 2 late goals after a goal-less draw at home to AFC Hayes had looked the likely outcome.    As defenders stood off him in the 80th minute he worked his way to the edge of the penalty box before arrowing a shot low into the corner.   Terry Smith equalised for the visitors a few minutes later but when Ailey was held back as he tried to latch on to a free kick from the left he composed himself to smash the penalty low and hard to the keepers left.

It was a promising display from a squad not at all familiar with each other before today as of Borough's 16 man squad only 4 were with the Club last year although another 4 had previously been with us in earlier seasons.

Not to be outdone the Womens team, also fielding a number of new faces, won their first pre-season game on Sunday 25th by the same score against visiting Hutton.

WOMEN'S TEAM ENJOYING SUCCESSFUL SUMMER
Jul 11, 2010, 2:50 pm

....TWO SMALL SIDED TROPHIES ALREADY IN THE BAG

The WOMENS TEAM are regular entrants of small sided summer tournaments and they have already been the winners of two high profile tournaments.

On Saturday 5th June, Islington held its first ever anti-homophobia and anti-racism football tournament.  Labelled the DIVERSITY CUP, it was held to show the Borough of Islington recognises the achievements made in eradicating racism from football but the need for the process to be repeated with homophobia.     Organised by Suran Dickson from Islington School Sports Partnership; a partner of Arsenal in the Community, and Michael MacNeill from the Islington Football Development Partnership which is part-funded by Arsenal in the Community, the event was held at Market Road and was open to both men and women.   It was a resounding success and the football was played in the usual fun and competitive spirit while the message was taken seriously by all participants. In the Women's competition, the semi-finals ended up being a repeat of the opening games in the competition, with Henderson's Harriers repeating their 3-0 win over London Front Runners, whilst Haringey beat Islington Borough 2-0.          In a tight final at the end of a very hot day, Haringey clinched the Trophy with a 1-0 win.

On Saturday July 10th they won the UNITY CUP.   This is an annual event started in 2007 as a commemoration of the 7/7/London bombings and brings together London's communities, social and corporate organisations and UK Government Departments.  The core aim is to encourage the crossing of ethnic and religious barriers and to unite against terrorism, extremism and Islamophobia by bringing together young people of all religious, ethnic and social backgrounds through football to create a better world through the global appeal of the game.   Our squad for the finals held at Paddington recreation ground was Cherkish YOUNG,  Lekesha JAMES,  Maria GOMES,  Lekesha JAMES,  Annika QUARTEY,  Karla PARKER,  Tanya BEVERLEY.

Not content with their days work they then played in the HARINGEY WORLD CUP  TOURNAMENT on Sunday 11th in which only Tottenham Hotspur were able to condemn them to runners up medals only !

A SEASON WHICH DRAGGED ON AND ON BUT.....
May 30, 2010, 8:50 pm

............AT LAST - ITS ALL OVER - BUT ONLY FOR 6 WEEKS

It fell to the Womens Team to bring the curtain down on the season on the last Sunday in May when they entertained Cambridge University at Coles Park in a match for which the expression "meaningless mid-table end of season affair" might have been coined.     Borough's 4-1 win lifted them into the top half of the table but for a team which led the table at Christmas and were then many peoples promotion favourites it was a disappointing end to their campaign.

A brief lull now beckons but the first two pre-season friendlies have already been arranged - for the Mens team - against Zamoretto League AFC Hayes on July 24th and Rymans League Ilford on July 31st with both games scheduled for Coles Park.

The Womens Team have already made their pre-seaon trials/training plans and details can be obtained by clicking "Trials and Training"  in the Menu Column and the selecting the WOMEN option.      The Mens Team details will be published shortly.  The Club will not be fielding Youth Teams in 2010/11
