5 WINS IN A ROW SENDS BOROUGH.....
Mar 8, 2008, 8:41 pm
.....BACK TO THE TOP

BOROUGH's comfortable 2-0 win at home to Bedford Town Reserves coupled with favourable results elsewhere (of the top 6 promotion chasers only Borough were winners) enabled them to re-claim top spot.     But so tight is the situation at the top that it will be some time before the numbers in the chasing pack are reduced.   Currently the top 6 are

HARPENDEN SWEPT ASIDE AS

............BOROUGH REACH THE FINAL
A scintillating display of attacking football which swept aside the semi-final challenge of Harpenden Town put Borough's First Team  into a knock out competition  Final for the first time since season 1997/98.

Their 4-0 win means that they will face Ampthill Town in the Final of the Spartan South Midlands League Division One Cup at a venue and on a date to be announced.   Ampthill Town were 2-1 winners at Buckingham Athletic in the other semi-final.

A GREAT WEEKEND AT BEDFORD'S EXPENSE
Feb 10, 2008, 7:06 pm
..........BACK TO WINNING WAYS

BOROUGHS FIRST TEAM PUT THEIR RECENT SLUMP BEHIND THEM AND RESUMED THEIR WINNING WAYS WITH A COMPREHENSIVE 6-1 THUMPING OF BEDFORD FC AT McMULLEN PARK ON SATURDAY.  BOROUGH WERE A GOAL UP AT HALF TIME AND RACED INTO A 5 GOAL LEAD BEFORE BEDFORD NETTED A CONSOLATION.

NOT TO BE OUTDONE THE WOMENS TEAM THEN ENTERTAINED BEDFORD'S WOMENS TEAM AT COLES PARK ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON AND EDGED THEIR WAY INTO THEIR LEAGUE CUP SEMI-FINAL WITH A 3-2 PENALTY SHOOT OUT WIN AFTER THE MATCH ENDED 5-5 AFTER EXTRA TIME IN A GAME WHERE BEDFORD THREE TIMES SNATCHED THE LEAD WHILE BOROUGH WERE TWICE AHEAD; BUT NEITHER SIDE COULD EVER SECURE MORE THAN A ONE GOAL ADVANTAGE.  4-4 AFTER 90 MINUTES.

MIXED FORTUNES WEEKEND BRINGS
Feb 3, 2008, 8:51 pm
..MISERY FOR SOME BUT DELIGHT FOR OTHERS

Although the First Team threw away three much needed promotion chasing points losing the game at home to Amersham Town to a late goal despite dominating throughout its not all gloom and doom.

Firstly, the promotion scramble at the top is so tight that there is still plenty of time to put together a winning run in the last 15 games to see us through.   Only 8 points separate the top six teams with Borough comfortable tucked in at 5th place, six points behind the leaders with two games in hand.

Secondly, on Sunday Raki Hudson's Under 17 team battled their way through to their London County Cup Final at Hackney marshes despite playing the whole game against New North Rangers with only 10 men, falling behind, scoring a late equaliser to take the game to extra time and then winning the penalty shoot out 4-2.

Thirdly,  the Womens team, although deprived of the services of some regular players through injury, put on a gritty team performance to twice come from behind at home to Peterborough in their League Cup match to run out 3-2 winners and set up a quarter final tie at home to  Bedford next Sunday

NOT QUITE A BLANK WEEKEND AND.....
Jan 18, 2008, 12:28 pm
THE WOMEN REACH A CUP SEMI-FINAL TOO

In a weekend which saw a vast number of games cancelled due to the weather including the whole of the Spartan South Midlands league Fixture List only two of the scheduled games games involving seven of Borough's teams survived.

The Women won a thrill a minute London County Cup quarter final tie against Tottenham Hotspur on a fine "Frederick Knight Centre" pitch by the odd goal in seven with Boroughs winner coming two minutes from the end of extra time.   This sets up a Semi Final at home to either Millwall Lionesses.   Full report on the "Fixtures & Results" page.

Further good news is that for the second week running the under 13s have beaten the rain to get their game on; and made it 2 wins out of 2 in 2008 with a 5-0 demolition of Heathrow Club.
