Both Borough teams kept their first clean sheets of the season.

On Saturday the Men won comfortably at Waltham Forest with first half goals by Walid Matata (making him the League’s leading scorer with 8 goals) and Arian Maleknia.    Dean Fenton added a late third.  But it was only two astonishing Forest miscues of gilt edged chances that preserved the clean sheet in a match where the losers had at least as much possession but wasted their chances as they launched a series of high crosses to the far post which ‘keeper Ashley Harris easily collected with little serious challenge..

On Sunday the Women entertained Stevenage and Marianne Sheena scored  the only goal of the match early on with a lofted effort from near the corner flag which sailed over the ‘keepers head.  After that it was dogged defending which preserved the clean sheet as the visitors dominated the remainder of the match only to be repeatedly thwarted right into stoppage time by a series of astonishing close range saves by ‘keeper Natalie Silva-Knight who deservedly won the player of the match award.

3G pitches must be to Borough's liking for playing on the superb Harlow Arena surface they:-

1) Reached double figures for the first time since the mid 1970s merger of Wood Green Town and Edmonton to become HARINGEY BOROUGH as Enfield (1893) were despatched by a 10-1 scoreline

2) Set a new Essex Senior League record of 18 Consecutive League wins

3) Equalled the League individual scoring record with WALID MATATA's seven - and he did it in only 70 minutes as he was substituted shortly after scoring the seventh

.......and moved to the top of the table with maximum points from 3 games, thanks to a one better goal difference than FC Romania.

Borough's campaign got under way with 4 home matches.  The first 2 were League encounters which were won comfortably enough by 5-1 and 2-1 against Clapton and London Bari on Saturday 9th August and the following Tuesday respectively.

But the performance on Saturday 16th against Hertford Town was massively disappointing as Borough exited the FA Cup at the first hurdle.   Herrtford scored within seconds of the kick off and went on to become deserved 3-0 winners as Borough turned in a performance well below par.

Some consolation was secured on Tuesday 19th in the First Round of the Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy as visitying Ilford were despatched by 2-1 although having looked comfortable Borough had to endure a nervy last ten minutes after conceding the softest of goals.

In the first round Borough will be travelling to ERITH TOWN - provisionally on Wednesday 29th October.  They are in the Southern Counties League (formerly the Kent League) and play in Eltham

Success would bring a home tie with either Tooting & Mitcham United or Croydon

Victory in that game would see Borough travelling again to the survivor from Welling United, Cockfosters, Erith & Belvedere and Fisher

The full draw can be seen on the London FA website via our "Links" option

The Draws for the early rounds of the FA CUP have been published and Borough could make the 2nd Qualifying Round without leaving Coles Park.     On the 16th August HERTFORD TOWN (Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division) will visit in the Extra Preliminary Round.    Success in that game would bring GREAT WAKERING ROVERS (Ryman League Division One North) for the Preliminary Round Tie on 30th August and victory in that game would lead to a visit from  CANVEY ISLAND (Ryman League Premier Division) in the 1st Qualifying Round on 13th September

In the FA VASE our exploits last season have earned us exemption from the qualifying rounds.

In the ESSEX SENIOR LEAGUE CUP the Final could be reached without leaving Coles Park.   After a First Round bye ILFORD will be the Second Round visitors and success would bring a Quarter Final game at home to TAKELEY or STANSTED and victory in that would result in a home Semi Final against the survivor from FC ROMANIA, BASILDON UNITED, ENFIELD 1893,  NEWHAM,  BOWERS & PITSEA and HULLBRIDGE SPORTS

In the League’s supplementary Competition THE GORDON BRASTED MEMORIAL TROPHY   the First round again brings ILFORD to Coles Park and the victors then visit HULLBRIDGE SPORTS in the Second Round.   Victory there would result in a home Quarter Final tie against TOWER HAMLETS or SAWBRIDGEWORTH TOWN with the victors of that game visiting the survivor from CLAPTON, LONDON BARI, ENFIELD 1893, SOUTHEND MANOR or STANSTED in the Semi Final.

The only other knock-out competition Borough have entered is the LONDON SENIOR CUP for which the draw has not yet been made.
